Local SEO Checklist for Service Businesses in 2026
Publicado May 4, 2026 · por Ad Wolves Media · 18 must-do items
Local SEO is not magic. It is a repeatable process. If you serve customers in a specific city or region, this checklist will move you from invisible to the Google 3-pack. We built PageGenius to automate most of these steps—here is the full manual version anyway.
Claim & Verify Google Business Profile
The #1 ranking factor for local pack. Use the exact business name, correct address, and primary category.
Add LocalBusiness Schema.org Markup
Include @type: LocalBusiness with name, address, phone, URL, geo coordinates, and opening hours.
Optimize Title Tags with City + Service
Example: 'Emergency Roof Repair Tampa | Elite Roofing Solutions'
Write Unique Meta Descriptions
150-160 characters. Include city, service, and a soft CTA. Every page needs a unique one.
Create a Dedicated Contact Page
Display NAP (Name, Address, Phone) exactly as it appears on GBP. Embed a Google Map.
Add Service Pages for Each Offering
Don't lump everything into one page. Separate pages for 'Dental Implants,' 'HVAC Repair,' 'Shingle Replacement.'
Embed Customer Reviews & Testimonials
Google reviews increase trust and CTR. Display 3-5 recent reviews on the homepage.
Build Local Citations (Top 30)
Ensure consistent NAP on Yelp, BBB, Angi, HomeAdvisor, Chamber of Commerce, and industry directories.
Get Backlinks from Local Sites
Sponsor a Little League team, partner with a local realtor, or guest-post on a neighborhood blog.
Add FAQ Schema to Service Pages
Target long-tail queries like 'How much does a new roof cost in Tampa?' with FAQ markup.
Ensure Mobile-First Design
60%+ of local searches happen on mobile. Page speed must be under 2.5s on 4G.
Compress & Optimize Images
Use WebP, lazy loading, and descriptive alt text with city names: 'emergency-roof-repair-tampa.jpg'.
Create Location-Specific Content
Blog posts like 'How Tampa's Humidity Affects Your Roof' signal local relevance to Google.
Set Up Google Search Console
Submit sitemap.xml, monitor indexing, and fix crawl errors immediately.
Generate & Submit Sitemap.xml
Include all pages with lastmod dates and priority values. Update after every content change.
Use Consistent NAP Everywhere
One typo in your address across directories can tank rankings. Audit quarterly.
Encourage Google Reviews Weekly
Send SMS/email 3 days after service completion. Aim for 10+ new reviews per month.
Track Rankings & Calls Monthly
Use a rank tracker for 'service + city' keywords. Measure phone calls from GBP and website.
